Yep, They Did It Again

We’ve been dogged busy at work the last couple months, and have not only neglected this blog but also most pop culture news, viral videos, recent interviews, season premieres, breaking stories, and new music.  However, when we discovered the existence of the first trailer for the new Muppets movie, we dropped everything.  We made time.  In fact, we made a general announcement that we were taking a two-minute break from our immediate responsibilities to enjoy the tease of a teaser.  And enjoy we did.

And they must have also enjoyed it because they went ahead and put together another trailer steeped in the same kind of misdirection.  Ladies and gentlemen, The Muppets teaser #2:

Muppet Monday: And So It Begins

It’s been a long, long, too long time since we brought you a Muppet Monday, but this was the one we were waiting for, the one we couldn’t deny.  After months – and years – of anticipation, the trailer for The Muppets arrived, delivering a teaser in the truest sense of the word.  And while our excitement level for this film couldn’t have already been any higher, this trailer provided us with something greater than excitement: confidence.  If the brilliance, whimsy, and poise demonstrated in the teaser is any indication, than we have nothing to worry about come Thanksgiving 2011.

If we weren’t so sick of this rain and the mild temperatures, then we’d say that we can’t wait until November. But, then again, why rush this?

Gratuitous Search Term Bait of the Day: You’ve Got Jumped the Snark

The bulk of our daily search terms continue to be Survivor: Redemption Island related – Phillip, Survivor Phillip, Former Federal Agent Phillip, Kristina boobs – so we’re going to work with the odd man out in the group, “jumped the snark.”  And we’ve previously established that when our search term is “jumped the snark” it’s a wild-card day, we can post anything our little R2D2 Mr. Potato Head heart desires.  And our little R2D2 Mr. Potato Head once again desires to honor the work of Judd Apatow.

This past weekend brought us the long-awaited Freaks and Geeks and Undeclared reunions at Los Angeles’ Paley Center (which you can read much more about here).  It’s truly amazing to see these kids grown up, truly amazing that they’ve almost all gone on to successful careers as adults, and perhaps most truly amazing of all is that none of them have developed a serious drug problem (excluding an apparent affinity for the wacky tobaccky).  We frequently mention Freaks and Geeks on this blog, so we’re going to shine the spotlight on Undeclared this time around.

Here’s a clip from the series’ third episode, “Eric Visits,” which contains probably our favorite Undeclared exchange.  At about the 30 second mark please enjoy Seth Rogen’s thoughts on a certain Tom Hanks romantic comedy.

We feel the same way.

Two Years Later, Our Judd Apatow Chart Reaches Judd Apatow!

Well, maybe not exactly.  It’s possible he still hasn’t seen it.  Or maybe just took a cursory glance.  But he definitely saw our Tweet from last night, linking to the Judd Apatow Chart in commemoration of the Blu-Ray release of The Cable Guy.  How do we know he saw it?  Because he retweeted it:

We did it guys!  Nearly two years later, we finally got through.  Now we can say this blog was not created in vain.

So, Judd, thank you so much for taking the time to click “retweet.”  We know that sounds sarcastic, but we certainly don’t mean it that way.  Just the fact that you paused for a second to acknowledge our work gives us renewed inspiration.  So to all you new Jumped the Snark readers, brought here by Apatow’s retweet, welcome and get ready.  We could retire now and be satisfied, but we’re not going to stop here.  Hate to break it to you, every out there, but now we’re emboldened to do even more.

And, why not, let’s end this with a little Gordon Crisp.  Possibly our favorite three seconds of all-time.

Last Week on ‘Top Chef’: The Boorgerman

If you thought we couldn’t keep up our habit of recapping Top Chef just before the new episode premieres, then you were wrong.  DEAD WRONG.  So here we go! (note: our DVR ran out of space when recording this episode so we cannot provide our usual primary source materials.  Sorry!)

  • For the Quickfire challenge they made fondue!  Just like a party my parents might have!  But Carla was struggling and lamented the fact that there was never any time.
  • Time to sample the dishes!  Padma seemed to particularly enjoy Tiffany’s entry.

Read on: Product placement, Fabio struggles with basic English words, Dale steals from our personal recipe book, Carla gets more and more unbearable, and Jimmy Fallon, Steve Higgins and A.D. Miles are adorable.

TONIGHT: Russell vs. Boston Rob Round 2 (Oh, and the Premiere of ‘Survivor: Redemption Island’)

February 16th is finally here and tonight is closing in fast.  Which means that, after literally weeks of anticipation, Survivor: Redemption Island premieres this evening.  But, more importantly, that means the epic, long-awaited, dream come true, clash of the titans showdown between Russell Hantz and Boston Rob is nearly upon us.

When their return was announced a few weeks back we quickly voiced our initial skepticism.  And in the intervening time our feelings haven’t really changed.  We’re still extremely hesitant about this twist, bringing Rob back for his fourth go ’round and Russell for his third attempt in four seasons, because their personal battle genuinely threatens to be bigger than the game, and we’re nervous about what it means for future seasons.  The initial returns could be astronomical, but we could be trading long-term satisfaction for immediate gratification.

But it’s hard to watch this and not get excited.  We’re excited.

More: Early predictions that may surprise you. And Jeff Probst teases the future!

Russell vs. Rob: Less Than a Week

Get ready.  They are.

Now go over to Entertainment Weekly to witness Russell and Boston Rob’s very first meeting in Nicaragua.

Rob looks scared, doesn’t he?  He should be.

Gratuitous Search Term Bait of the Day: A Heroes Welcome

We’re going to cheat a little tonight.  Our search term for this post is “tom westman heroes,” but, as much as we absolutely adore Lt. Tom Westman, we’ve already welcome him twice to this daily feature.  And, more importantly, there’s bigger Survivor matters at hand right now.  So we’re going to use that search term as an excuse to bring you this, the first official Boston Rob/Russell promo for Redemption Island:

Vodpod videos no longer available.

“I’m going to need a bigger torch” = AMAZING.  Bring it, Probst!

Can.  Not.  Wait.

(Also, quick thought: Are Russell and Boston Rob really Jacob and the Man in Black?  Think about it)
