Eight (Hundred) is Great

800 Posts

We’ve gone ahead and ignored all your pleas for us to cease and desist and have reached yet another milestone on this blog: 800 posts (and counting). We kind of crawled our way from 700, with the latter half of 2012 and the early part of 2013 being monopolized by professional obligations, but we’re still extremely proud of hitting this mark. More importantly, we’re reenergized, emboldened to continue (sorry, everyone!), remaining your number one source for Survivor Celebrity Look-Alikes, Gallagher commentary, general nonsense and the occasional insight. As we march forward towards 900 (and god willing or god forbid, depending your stance, 1000), we hope you stick with us, even if you only end up here because you were searching for a State video that has been blocked. As a thank you (AND an apology) here’s a video State-member David Wain made for his wife’s birthday:

‘Survivor: Caramoan’ – Hope Floats (But Heavy Wooden Chests Don’t)

Survivor Challenge Wooden ChestLast week’s episode of Survivor: Caramoan – Fans vs. Favorites 2 Legit 2 Quit began with another temper tantrum from Brandon upon returning from Tribal Council. This week, not to be outdone, Brandon’s counterpart on the Fans side, Shamar, sounded off loudly after the vote. We talked in our last post about our uneasiness concerning these two bellicose, volatile players, that their unhinged – and often selfish – behavior would unfairly take center stage, and this happened once again in the latest episode, right off the bat. Here’s how it sounded at Goata camp.

The Pope’s Last Supper

The Pope-a comes to Visit

Today Pope Benedict XVI officially resigned from the Church, waving goodbye to the Vatican and the millions of Catholics who believed he was infallible. But what did he do for his last night as Pope? Well, as you might imagine, he celebrated with a big pasta dinner, and things got a little pazzo (like Gallagher show crazy). See exclusive footage here.

When can only hope that the next Pope demonstrates such mercy.

Happy Jew Year!

Well, Rosh Hashana is upon us again. Has it really been a whole year already (we’re really asking; even we get a little confused with the Hebrew Calendar)?

The nice thing about the Domino’s is that they don’t Jew you on the pepperoni.

– Michael Ian Black,  Mike and Tom Eat Snacks, Episode  32

Let’s celebrate the New Year with breaking down Jewish stereotypes. Yes, we like challah bread and matzoh ball soup and potato kugel and bagels. And, yes, we run Hollywood. And, yes, we make dynamite plastic surgeons. And, yes, we like to get to the movie theater extra-early to make sure that we get a good seat. We are all these things. HOWEVER, not all of us are cheap, parsimonious bastards who will Jew you out of every possible penny. In fact, sometimes – as Jon Benjamin and David Cross illustrate – we’ll even Jew you up.

So dip the apples in the honey! (we will not, because we are allergic to apple, and thus will never have a sweet new year. It will be one unbroken string of bitter misery)

They’re Finally Together

After more than a decade it looks like David Wain & Michael Showalter’s Wet Hot American Summer follow-up They Came Together is finally going to be made, if Variety is to be trusted (and, really, can they???).   Much like Wet Hot took on 80s summer camp flicks, this one has rom-coms in its crosshairs.  And, much like Wet Hot, They Came Together will star Paul Rudd and Amy Poehler, and also likely the rest of The State and Zak Orth and A.D. Miles and Elizabeth Banks and Mather Zickel and Nina Hellman (not that we’re complaining.  In fact, we’re crossing our fingers).

You can see a very brief, very blurry clip from the They Came Together read through at this year’s SF Sketchfest here, or, instead, watch this iconic Rudd clip from Wet Hot.  The choice is yours.

We’re starting the campaign for a Tom Hanks-Meg Ryan cameo now.

On the Second Day of Hanukkah Jumped the Snark Gave to You…

…Michael Ian Black, or, as his birth certificate says, Michael Ian Schwartz.  Did you know he was Jewish?  Well, he is, all the way, and you can and should learn more about him on the latest, long-awaited, WTF Podcast.

Did you also know that he provided one of the lead voices on the extremely short-lived Frisky Dingo spin-off The Xtacles?   Well, he did, and you can hear him here:

Vodpod videos no longer available.

Happy Bon Jovi Friday!!!

Comedy Central & Michael Ian Black Team Up to Celebrate Us All Week!

Well, it came has huge surprise to us, but Comedy Central has devoted a whole week to little ol’ us, and, even better, “Snark Week” is being hosted by our all-time favorite Michael Ian Black.

Vodpod videos no longer available.

Honestly, we had no idea that they had this in the works, but we could not be more flattered, especially with Black (Magic to his friends) as the master of ceremonies.  Truly, an enormous, humbling honor.

Let’s say we all return the favor and tune in for Black’s Comedy Central special “Very Famous” this Saturday at 11pm (10pm Central).   It’s the least we can do.

Gratuitous Search Term Bait of the Day: Not The Last Supper

A quick one tonight because we need to get to the Survivor: Redemption Island recap straight away.

Looks like some of you have gotten to our little site from using the term “last supper imagery.”  We’re assuming this contingent was a mix of bible scholars and Lost fanatics.  But our post tonight is going to address neither of those groups (and possibly offend the former).  Tonight, this one’s for people who like to dip their balls into things.

We like to think that Jesus would find this sketch pretty funny.  Because if you can’t laugh at one of your apostles betraying you and delivering you to crucifixion, then what can you laugh at?

Russell Brand on ‘SNL’: Very British

Well, we had little hope that the SNL would rebound from its disillusioning Dana Carvey episode last week.  For some reason, lately we’ve been giving the show the reverse of the benefit of the doubt, the doubt of the benefit if you will.  And when we casually started the episode late Saturday night, it seemed that our prognostications would be proven valid, that we were in for another ho-hum effort with a perfectly fine but completely ordinary host.  But, while Russell Brand would prove to possibly be the weakest part of the show, the episode turned around on the basis of two sketches, two pieces that will no doubt sit atop our best of the season list.

Coming up: What sketch did we watch four times? And we hand out the season MVP award early.

Gratuitious Search Term Bait of the Day: Toothbrush Has Come Back to You

A couple of months ago we had the search term “toothbrush the state video.”  Unfortunately, we were unable to come up with that sketch for you, and hung our heads in shame.  But guys asked for it again, and while we can’t provide the whole sketch for legal reasons (Viacom is particularly protective of their content), we can offer an excerpt from it.  Today redemption is spelled “J-u-m-p-e-d-t-h-e-s-n-a-r-k.”

And while we’re speaking of Michael Ian Black (well, by “speaking” we mean “uploading a video that stars”), we implore you to check out “Michael & Tom Eat Snacks,” the amazing new podcast in which Black and his Ed co-star Tom Cavanaugh eat, and discuss, snacks (well, one snack per episode).  Just another podcast we’ve recently fallen in love with (sounds like Mondays might have to be our podcast day).

YOU’RE WELCOME.
