On the Third Day of Hanukkah Jumped the Snark Gave to You…

…Natalie Hershlag or נטלי הרשלג‎ or, as she’s more commonly known, Natalie Portman.  And, to be perfectly honest, we don’t really have any great Natalie Portman clips for you, but we have been watching a lot of Star Wars lately, so we’ll take the excuse to post probably our favorite scene from the prequels:

Anakin, my allegiance is to the republic.  TO DEMOCRACY!

On the Second Day of Hanukkah Jumped the Snark Gave to You…

…Michael Ian Black, or, as his birth certificate says, Michael Ian Schwartz.  Did you know he was Jewish?  Well, he is, all the way, and you can and should learn more about him on the latest, long-awaited, WTF Podcast.

Did you also know that he provided one of the lead voices on the extremely short-lived Frisky Dingo spin-off The Xtacles?   Well, he did, and you can hear him here:

Happy Bon Jovi Friday!!!

On the First Day of Hanukkah Jumped the Snark Gave to You…

…a classic Seinfeld clip.  We saw this episode a few weeks ago and were blown away by how it absolutely holds up, better than 99% of shows on TV today.  Sure, the laugh track is antiquated and the Hollywood facsimile of New York City is legitimately laughable, but the dialogue and the acting remain sheer brilliance.

It’s also amazing that a show that essentially centers on four Jews (depending on how you categorize Kramer) was at one-time the most popular sitcom in these United but Divided States.  It is not surprising, however, that it’s still considered one the greatest, if not the greatest, of all-time.

Happy (Belated) T.Hanksgiving

Hope your turkey was delicious! (and its production did destroy your kitchen, nor was it launched through a window)

(and, yes, we know we posted this clip just a couple weeks back, but it’s more appropriate than ever.  And if you’re complaining about too much Hanks, well, then, you’re just not the kind of reader we want on this blog).

Muppet Monday: Our Long-Awaited Thoughts on the Impending Arrival of ‘The Muppets:’ Or Why We’re Dreading the Thing We Wanted More Than Anything Else

In two days The Muppets will return to theaters after more than a decade away from the big screen.  It seems like just yesterday that we were salivating over the whispers of a Muppet resurrection orchestrated by Jason Segel (yes, that Jason Segel).  After spending years on the brink of obsolescence – thanks to bad business deals, changing tastes, the boom of CGI, and general Hollywood bureaucracy – it began to seem like the Muppets would never be given the opportunity to recapture the glory they once possessed, that they would forever be relegated to an aging, evermore antiquated attraction at Disneyland, and truly exist only on DVD and in the hearts and memories of people over 25.  We yearned for their return, and while we never imagined their savior would be a geek in shining armor like Segel, we were thrilled when the rumors began to circulate that someone who grew up on the Muppets, someone who loved and cherished them as much as we did, was going to resuscitate them.  Not some out of touch, graying puppeteers, or even the Henson family, but someone with a fresh, relevant perspective whose primary hope was to honor the spirit and style of Jim Henson.  We could not have been more excited.

And now, with The Muppets about to unspool at theaters across the country, what we feel is not excitement, but trepidation.  Why? Because of this:

Kermit, Miss Piggy

DOUBLE TIME TRAVEL!

Tonight is Daylight Savings, so obviously we’re linking to Pete & Pete‘s seminal “Time Tunnel“, as is our autumn tradition.  However, this year our night of Time Travel is special, because not only is tonight (well, 3am tomorrow morning) is the moment when we set our clocks back, but it’s also the date in 1955 to which Marty McFly travels back.  Yes, on this, the night of time travel, we also celebrate the 56th anniversary of the DeLorean’s arrival in 1955 Hill Valley.  Is it just coincidence that Daylight Savings falls on this very significant day?  Or does this mean that at 3am we’re going to go back more than just an hour?  A day?  A year?  A decade?  Who knows?  Just make sure to hold onto your smart phones.  They might be your only  means of checking this blog when you’re stuck in the past.

The Origin of a Laugh

It occurred to us recently, as we watched this classic scene from the Money Pit, that we may have very well learned our deep, guttural laugh from Tom Hanks himself.  Sure, the nature vs. nuture debate remains, but as this movie was a touchstone of our childhood, during our most formative years, it’s not a stretch to suggest we picked up our miggle (man giggle) from the former Kip Wilson.

(find the guffaw at the 2:10 mark, but watch the entire clip, unless you hate fun)

‘Top Chef’ Returns Tonight!

But this time, they’ll be in Texas, where EVERYTHING is bigger.

The big question, however, is will Telly Monster return?
