Reginald VelJohnson in Uniform Moment of the Week: April Fools’ Edition

Sure, we could have posted this April Fools Family Matters Kickstarter spoof on April 1, but that would have been so predictable and obvious, so totally against the spirit of that day of punking. Yes, ten days later on April 11 feels much more appropriate to bring you our first Reginald VelJohnson in Uniform in quite some time

Inspired by the recent record-breaking success of the Veronica Mars movie Kickstarter, those pranksters over at Funny or Die unleashed a series of spoof campaigns for big screen versions of several classic television shows, including Darkwing Duck, Wings and Dinosaurs. Also amongst this impressive roster of past series looking for a second life is the legendary sitcom, the  TGIF anchor, Family Matters. And who better to be the face of this venture than Carl Winslow himself, Reginald VelJ.

In the proposed film the Winslow family is kidnapped by a mysterious villain who may or may not be someone they know, perhaps someone very close to them, perhaps even someone who lives right next door. With his family in captivity, Carl goes into Liam Neeson Taken mode, his deep baritone striking fear into any would be evildoers.

RVJ still looks pretty good in uniform, doesn’t he?

Ladies and Gentlemen, Your Next Movie Star Part 2 (Cup Checking Higgins)

Just when we thought we couldn’t like Jason Sudeikis anymore – the guy loves wings AND beer – he goes ahead and tops himself.  We figured he’d peaked last week with his Buffalo Wild Wings and Natty Light fueled appearance on Conan; how could be possibly endear himself to us anymore than that?  But then he flew back east and just flat-out dominated last Friday’s Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, sprinkling his infectious charm over the whole show, culminating with a spontaneous attack on Higgins (aka Higgbones) while the two sample some  gourmet grilled cheese.  Just watch and delight.

Vodpod videos no longer available.

Earlier in the show Sudeikis joined Fallon for a round of “Long Pour,” further establishing Sudeikis as today’s foremost beer-drenched comedian.  Jason, you like beer, we like beer, what’s say we get together and like beer together?

AND THERE’S MORE!

Ladies and Gentlemen, Your Next Movie Star (And He’s Just Like Us)

As if Jason Sudeikis needed to endear himself to us even more, he went on Conan last night that and showed that he’s into the exact same things we are: beer and wings.

Vodpod videos no longer available.

After the jump we detail our very personal experiences with Natty Light and Buffalo Wild Wings

Kieran’s Korner: Let’s Get Real About Paul McCartney

It’s been five days and yet we still have a bad taste in our mouth after last week’s ‘SNL’ hosted by Paul McCartney with a special appearance by Paul Rudd.  We understand that Paul McCartney is special, even the British monarchy has acknowledged that.  There are stars, and there are mega-stars, and then there are supernovas.  McCartney is the latter.  However, we still believe that ‘SNL’ shouldn’t have been so much about him, and his presence struck us a somewhat selfish booking, designed to provide more pleasure for the cast and crew than the audience at home.  This sentiment was only driven home when Paul Rudd remarked on ‘Live! With Regis and Kelly’ that (no surprise) after the show McCartney stuck around to play an impromptu private concert.  Rudd was obviously still in awe of the moment, noting that he’s “a massive Beatles fan, like everyone.”  But we’re not massive Beatles fans, and even if we were, we wonder if we’d be interested in McCartney’s other works, like the songs he played for his first two ‘SNL’ sets.  So that got us thinking, do people really care about hearing Paul McCartney play anything but Beatles songs?  Do they just tolerate McCartney in hopes that he’ll break out the Beatles catalog?  Or do they genuinely enjoy the cuts from Wings and his solo stuff?  So to get more clarity on this question, we turned to our guest blogger-in-residence and Beatles aficionado Kieran Walsh, in our latest Kieran’s Korner:

Wow.  Lead me into a minefield, why don’t you?

It’s not an easy question.  It’s not an easy answer.  Gosh…  Well, let’s do this.

After the jump: Kieran does this.
