It’s Official: ‘Sesame Street’ Rules the Internet
Move Over Betty White, ScarJo, Anne Hathaway, and any other Hollywood starlet, young or old, who had her sights set on hosting SNL. Get in line behind the chocolate chip chomper, the macadamia mastictor, the snickerdoodle scavenger himself, Cookie Monster.
Is there anyone on the Internet these days doing better work than Sesame Street (and that includes my mom’s emails)? After firing off one viral sensation after another, from the Katy Perry-Elmo music video (yes, we thought it was good, clean fun) to a terrific True Blood spoof to a brilliant take on the Old Spice commercials, this one could be their magnum opus. Who would have imagined that the most reliable source for viral video genius in 2010 would be Sesame Street?
SNL, Lorne, you have about a month left in the year to make this happen.
And, realistically, wouldn’t it be amazing if this actually worked? But beyond just the novelty, and joy of seeing Cookie Monster take the stage at Studio 8H, it would be especially poignant for the Muppets, original SNL contributors, to return to the show after 35 years. In many ways it would be a return to the scene of the crime, as their brief run during the first season of SNL was one of Jim Henson’s few failures, with the abstract Muppet segments proving unpopular with audiences. So now, three and a half decades later, and twenty years after Henson’s death, Cookie Monster can make it right. He can bring it full circle. Like a perfect cookie (see what we did there?).
It’ll never happen, but at perhaps Cookie Monster can at least make a cameo. That’d be worlds better than relying on Seth Rogen to play him.

Great Month for Spike Lee and ‘Do the Right Thing’ Tributes
First, Children’s Hospital, which enjoyed an absolutely genius smart-silly-stupid-absurd first season on Adult Swim, ended the episode “Hot Enough For You” with these completely random, wholly enjoyable Do the Right Thing-inspired closing credits.
Vodpod videos no longer available.That was awesome. But then our friends, the gals over at Broad City, went ahead and blew that out of the water with this unbelievably brilliant Spike Lee homage that served as their season finale:
Beyond words. Mini-masterpiece.
Well, since all good things (and celebrity deaths) come in threes, we have to imagine there’s a third Spike Lee-esque joint coming down the pike. Who will it be? Sesame Street, we’re looking in your direction (oh, looks like these guys already sorta did it).
Happy 41st (+ 1 Day) Birthday to Sesame Street!
We rarely miss a story here at Jumped The Snark. But we dropped the ball yesterday, neglecting to acknowledge yesterday’s milestone 41st anniversary of Sesame Street. Our bad.
So in (belated) honor of the day (which, if we’re not mistaken, is the felt anniversary) here’s one of our favorite Sesame Street clips:

And we think this is a great excuse to, once again, post The Muppets: A Celebration of 30 Years, which, looking back, is probably what cemented our love for The Muppets. It provided the necessary Muppet history in the same way that Saturday Night Live: 15th Anniversary Special was a spectacular primer for our nascent 7 year-old brain. We were probably the only kid who listed his two favorite videos as the Muppets 30th anniversary special and 1986 Mets: A Year to Remember.
Congrats, Sesame Street! See you in a year for your 42nd (+ 1 day) birthday! (the glitter anniversary, if we recall correctly)
Muppet Monday: ‘Sesame Street’ is Now Like ‘MadTV’, But Good
Sesame Street has long been in the pop culture parody business; in fact that’s basically it’s whole model, come up with concepts that will educate children but also entertain adults. But lately, they’re becoming kings of the genre, with Mad Men, 30 Rock and, most recently, True Blood parodies. And now they’ve moved even further from the mainstream with their version of Old Spice’s “Smell Like a Man” campaign:
Between Grover and Justine Bateman we’re feeling really uncool.
Next up, no doubt, is the Sad Elmo campaign. Or maybe Cigar Kermit.

Apparently Even Preschoolers Watch ‘True Blood’ And We Still Don’t
And apparently three-year olds can’t be exposed to breasts but they can watch a parody of a show that is ostensibly an excuse for soft-core porn. I guess this spoof of True Blood is one of those segments that’s really for the adults, because it’s be a sad state of affairs if today’s parents let their kids see Stephen Moyer’s penis, but not the suggestion of Katy Perry’s cleavage.
To be fair, this follows in the proud tradition of Sesame Street’s 30 Rock and Mad Men parodies, two series that are also NSFC. And they really captured Anna Paquin’s essence.

Happy Birthday, Jim Henson!
He would have been 74 years young today. Wonder what it he would have thought of all this hoopla over Katy Perry’s breasts. My guess is he wouldn’t have objected. It’s a shame it has to mar his day.
(sidenote: never thought I’d be able to tag a post with “Jim Henson” and “breasts.” Just goes to show that anything is possible).

Some Muppets Have All The Luck
I know it’s kinda fashionable to rag on Katy Perry, and she’s certainly no Brendan Fraser when it comes to acting in front of a green screen, but she’s good fun and so is this Sesame Street‘d version of “Hot & Cold.”
However, did her co-star have to be Elmo? That Muppet wouldn’t know what to do with a woman if he (?) had an instruction manual. When’s Bert going to catch a break?

Hanukkah Muppet Monday: The Secret Connection Between ‘Growing Pains’ & ‘Sesame Street’
You didn’t think I’d let a Muppet Monday falling on Hanukkah pass by without posting some sort of hilarious video or funny picture or insightful essay relevant to both the Muppets and Hanukkah, did you? Well, it’s Tuesday now, so I guess you were sorta right. But, still, a little faith would be nice.
I stumbled upon this video that combines perhaps the two things that I love most in this world: The Muppets and Growing Pains. This video features Jeremy Miller (aka Ben Seaver, aka the cute kid who grew into an awkward bespectacled teen and was quickly supplemented (supplanted) by a young Leonardo DiCaprio) visiting the Jewish version of Sesame Street, Shalom Sesame, and hosting a Hanukkah inspired game show spoof entitled “Dreidel of Fortune.” Watch and…well, watch.
I guess this means that Jeremy Miller is Jewish too. Not nearly as exciting as the same news about Alison Brie.
