Happy Halloweenie!

With the long Halloween nearly over it’s time to commemorate the day the way we commemorate every great holiday, with a nod to one of the most under-appreciated shows of its time – neigh, of any time – The Adventures of Pete & Pete.  Like the show did with New Year’s Eve and Valentine’s Day (and, as we’ll see in just a few short days, Daylight Savings), Pete & Pete refused to let a great holiday pass by without putting their very specific mark on the event.  We proudly present, once again, “Halloweenie.”

See you 3am Sunday.

We Finally Weigh-in On Hank Williams Jr.’s Controversial Hitler Comments

We dunno, we were kind of always under the impression he was a bit of a loose cannon.

Vodpod videos no longer available.

In Memorium: Steve Jobs

Well, actually, all that needs to be said about Steve Jobs has already been said, both good and bad.  So, instead, we thought we’d take this opportunity to share our earliest memory of Mac, what made us first want a Mac (a wish that took over ten years to come true, and then another five to be a proud owner of a brand new model): the 1995 sitcommerical, “The Martinettis Bring Home a Computer.”  We recall watching this infomercial-scripted comedy-hybrid on Saturday mornings with the same rapt attention we offered Muppet Babies and Saved by the Bell.  Much like the innovative products Jobs would bring to the world several years later upon his return to Apple, this “show” was pretty much the first of its kind.  Starring Chauncey Leopardi, better known as Michael “Squints” Palledorous, it remains a symbol of the that quintessential visionary Apple spirit, seen before, during, and hopefully after Jobs.

(if you’re curious, our first computer was  Compaq Presario with Windows 95 and we thought it was the most amazing thing ever ever).

In Memorium: Andy Rooney

Well, he hasn’t left this earth, but he’s leaving 60 Minutes.  And we should take this moment not to remember Rooney’s 1,097cantankerous, complaint-filled segments, but rather this clip from Beavis and Butthead, which first (tangentially) introduced us to the thorny, opinionated, very old (even then) man.

(and it’s because of this video that up until a few years ago we weren’t certain of the difference between Andy Rooney, Mickey Rooney and Mickey Rourke)

You were a fucking genius.  Thanks again.

‘Survivor’ Returns Tonight!

In just a matter of our CBS will premiere the newest edition of Survivor, this time set in the vast wilds of the South Pacific.  Also returning this season will be the much-maligned (at least by us) Redemption Island twist.  Also also returning, the inclusion of two returning Survivor players from season’s past.  Will one of those players be Steve, competing in back-to-back seasons?

Clearly not.

Actually the two returning players are Coach (!) and Ozzie.  Now in his third game of Survivor, we wonder if Coach will exhibit his trademark modesty.

See you at Tribal Council!

Who’s Ripping Us Off Now?

With the new fall TV season almost upon us (did you see the “new” promo for NBC’s Wednesday & Thursday night comedies?), we thought we’d offer our first The Office related post in quite sometime.  But this one is less about them and more about us.

It came to our attention shortly after the conclusion of last season that NY Mag‘s Fug Girls (of their “The Cut” blog.  Yes, we do occasionally read (and watch shows) about fashion),

had offered a side-by-side comparison of the employees of Dunder Mifflin’s changing styles during their seven seasons in front of the “documentary” cameras.  It was engaging, well-researched, and totally spot-on  It was also VERY familiar, as we had (twice!) previously posted our own visual essay on the stark physical transformations experienced by the Office cast.   Sure, The Fug Girls presented their findings in attractive slide-show fashion, but we find the single page model much easier and efficient (and we’re not about forcing you into

clicking through a dozen panels just to drive up our page views).  The truth is, we both did a great job distilling the pygmalion like evolution of these characters, and each post has its merits.  So, you know what, we’ll just go ahead let you decide.

Introducing: Great 10-Second Moments in Cinematic History

We’re happy to premiere an all-new feature here on Jumped the Snark, “Great 10-Second Moments in Cinematic History,” where we post some of the greatest scenes, quotes, exchanges and glances from movies past, all ten seconds or less (and when we refer to cinematic history, keep in mind we’re talking about our cinematic history, which might differ slightly from a certain Roger Ebert’s (for example, we liked Wet Hot American Summer right out of the gate).

So, now, with a memorable but perhaps unheralded clip from Wayne’s World, we debut Great 10-Second Moments in Cinematic History:
