Happy (Belated) T.Hanksgiving

Hope your turkey was delicious! (and its production did destroy your kitchen, nor was it launched through a window)

(and, yes, we know we posted this clip just a couple weeks back, but it’s more appropriate than ever.  And if you’re complaining about too much Hanks, well, then, you’re just not the kind of reader we want on this blog).

DOUBLE TIME TRAVEL!

Tonight is Daylight Savings, so obviously we’re linking to Pete & Pete‘s seminal “Time Tunnel“, as is our autumn tradition.  However, this year our night of Time Travel is special, because not only is tonight (well, 3am tomorrow morning) is the moment when we set our clocks back, but it’s also the date in 1955 to which Marty McFly travels back.  Yes, on this, the night of time travel, we also celebrate the 56th anniversary of the DeLorean’s arrival in 1955 Hill Valley.  Is it just coincidence that Daylight Savings falls on this very significant day?  Or does this mean that at 3am we’re going to go back more than just an hour?  A day?  A year?  A decade?  Who knows?  Just make sure to hold onto your smart phones.  They might be your only  means of checking this blog when you’re stuck in the past.

(thanks to Lourrine for the tip)

Happy Halloweenie!

With the long Halloween nearly over it’s time to commemorate the day the way we commemorate every great holiday, with a nod to one of the most under-appreciated shows of its time – neigh, of any time – The Adventures of Pete & Pete.  Like the show did with New Year’s Eve and Valentine’s Day (and, as we’ll see in just a few short days, Daylight Savings), Pete & Pete refused to let a great holiday pass by without putting their very specific mark on the event.  We proudly present, once again, “Halloweenie.”

See you 3am Sunday.

Big Week For Natural Disasters!

An earthquake and a hurricane in the same week???  Hard to believe.  But how about an earthquake and a typhoon in the same ring?  Now that’s just a recipe for a calamity.

Happy 2nd Birthday to Us!

It feels like it was just twenty-four short months ago that we launched this blog, but it’s actually been two full years.  Can you believe it?  When we started this thing, selling our comic book collection, maxing out our credit cards, and practically begging for help from all our friends at the convenience store, we were just hoping to break even.  Post a few Office commentaries, make our buddies laugh, maybe get a few dozen page views and call it a day.  Little did we know that years later we’d still be here, attracting 3,000 readers a day*.  We’ve come a long way, baby.

So, in honor of our 2nd birthday, we thought we’d look back at some of our favorite Jumped the Snark banners, a little walk down JtS memory lane.

Our 100th post:

Our first Christmas:

Baseball’s Back!

It was a long, long winter, and a long six weeks spring training.  But luckily for us we didn’t have to endure the disgusting, far too personal musing of George Brett while we prepared for the new baseball season.  Cause, let’s be honest, that guy is gross.  And we’re pretty certain he should steer clear of steak dinners at  Kokomo’s for a while.

So Happy New Baseball Season!  May your team win any game in which they don’t play the Mets! (unless your team features one or more awful human beings, in which case we’re indifferent)

Oh, and if you just can’t get enough of Brett, The Remix.

We now return to your regularly scheduled pop-culture focused snark.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day, From Uncle O’Grimacey!

If we show up in your list of Gchat contacts (which, we admit, is unlikely) you may have noticed that our icon (or avatar!) is a green, more Irish-looking, version of the McDonaldland character Grimace (who himself is the icon (or avatar!) for our personal website (which, we admit, is in dire need of a revamp).  That roly-poly green creature (also seen in our header above) is, of course, Uncle Grimacey, Grimace’s uncle (on his father’s side, obviously), who was trotted out by McDonald’s in the late 80s to promote their minty St. Patty’s-themed concoction, the Shamrock Shake.  So in honor of St. Patrick’s Day, and the Shamrock Shake (and the end of the March holiday blitz), we bring you Uncle O’Grimacey at the height of his fame:

And, yes, we got a Shamrock Shake today.  Duh.

We once spent no joke two hours going down the Wikipedia-YouTube rabbit hole reading about and then watching the classic McDonaldland characters (and then reading about and watching (and then reading about and watching (and so on (and so on)))), and we recommend you do the same.  Just start here and we’ll see you in the morning.

(and we think we just broke the record for most unnecessary parenthetical digressions in a 200-word post (congrats!)).

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Happy Pi Day!

The holidays just keep on coming.  Look at March, giving Late Decemeber-Early January a run for its money as the country’s premiere holiday season.  Nice work, March!

Cause today is Pi Day!  And, sure, we could take a few minutes to celebrate math.  But that’s silly.  Nope, here at Jumped the Snark Pi Day is always Pie Day.  And who loves pizza more than these guys?

(Well, we’d argue that we like pizza as much if not more than the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, but, unfortunately, no one has of yet made a supercut of us eating pizza at various times in various locations.  We know, hard to believe.  Also, we never liked how cheesy and undercooked the pizza looked in the movies.  It was fine for the cartoon, because everything is exaggerated in animation, but in real life pizza shouldn’t looked like it’s topped with Polly-O string cheese.)

Okay, FINE, here’s a pretty great math video.  IV hearts!
